Member Ministries: Bugles Across America
Joy is proud of our members who, in addition to working directly with outreach and community ministries at Joy, also have projects and services they serve passionately outside of the Church community. This blog series is an effort to highlight some of those passions, and the vast opportunities available to serve others.
Family Promise: An Update & An Opportunity
Joy should rightly be proud of helping get a local Family Promise network (rotating shelter in congregations’ buildings for homeless families) started in Tulsa. We signed up to host over two years ago, and that helped encourage others to sign up. We approached our synod’s Living God’s Abundance campaign together with Fellowship to help gather startup funds, and Lenten/Advent offerings as well as grants from Joy’s Mission Endowment Fund have all been generous supports for their first two years of operation.
Let Us Pray
Prayer calls us to open ourselves to God’s intentions for our lives. Prayer calls for us to ask for the fulfilment of our needs and the needs of our neighbors. Prayer reminds us to be merciful, and prayer reminds us that the most important God-given freedoms are not “freedom to” or even “freedom from” but “freedom for”--for the sake of others.
In the Messy Middle
Here we are together, apart, caught in the messy middle between the fear & uncertainty of two months ago, and the hoped-for end of a global pandemic. The pandemic seems further away from us individually than it has in a long time, but the end of the pandemic overall seems further away than ever. The novel coronavirus is still spreading in many communities, including metro Tulsa, but it feels like many folks are trying to go back to the way things used to be.
