| Below is a recent report from our Outreach work at the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma: Stacks and stacks of cans greeted 14 members and friends of Joy who met on Tuesday evening, May 27, at the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. Little cans, big cans and every size in between. We were there to help sort and box the can goods donated to the Food Bank in the recent Letter Carrier’s Annual Can Food Drive. Along with another volunteer group from First Presbyterian, we sorted and boxed 11,810 pounds of cans into 6 categories; corn, green beans, assorted beans, entrees, meat and assorted can goods. Each box was also weighed to make sure it held 30 pounds of food, then sealed and stacked by category. These boxes will be distributed to some of the 440 Partner Programs assisted by the Food Bank including the Oaks Indian Mission, food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after school programs and senior citizen centers. In turn, those programs collectively feed 50,000 people each week, the equivalent of 539,000 meals per month. Come and join us next time we go! For more information, please contact the church office.
